Custody battle taking shape over Bristol Palin’s newborn

It looks like there will be another child custody fight in Bristol Palin’s future. Her ex-fiance Dakota Meyer filed a complaint in Alaska Superior Court stating that he believes he is the child’s biological father.

The couple was supposed to marry in May 2015, but the wedding was called off a week beforehand. Bristol’s mother, former governor of Alaska and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, said that they have been trying to contact Dakota for several months, but that he didn’t want anything to do with the pregnancy or the baby. She added that she believes that Dakota is simply trying to “save face.”

An attorney based in New York said that even if Dakota hasn’t been around in the past, he is now. The attorney said that “Dads [often] show up years later … What has he really missed?” She also thinks that Dakota has probably already had testing done to confirm he is the father, simply based on how his situation is being portrayed in the media.

Dakota, a former Marine and Medal of Honor recipient, may also be requesting child support, although that doesn’t seem to have been confirmed by the media yet. Some feel that Bristol will fight for custody and the court battle will end in a workable parenting schedule.

This is not the first time Bristol has fought for custody of her child. In 2008, she gave birth to a boy. After the legal battles between her and Levi Johnston, her ex-fiance, she is the primary custodian of her son.

Child custody matters can be contentious, but the assistance of an experienced family law attorney can be a great help.
